Cleary Gottlieb Welcomes Hy Pomerance as Chief Talent Officer

October 11, 2018

Cleary Gottlieb is proud to welcome Hy Pomerance, a leading human resources professional who has held C-suite talent management positions at several Fortune 500 companies, who has joined Cleary as the firm’s first Chief Talent Officer, based in the New York office.

In this new position, Hy leads all aspects of Cleary’s global legal and professional talent and human resources function, including diversity and inclusion, recruiting and professional development. A long-standing priority for the firm, Cleary was recently honored by Euromoney Legal Media Group as Best International Firm for Talent Management.

“We are excited to have Hy leading our global talent management,” said Cleary’s Managing Partner Michael Gerstenzang. “Law firms are talent-driven. Our success depends on attracting and developing the most talented people, and empowering them to provide the best service to our clients. We must continue to innovate and to think holistically about how we can provide our people with the right environment and the best possible tools to serve our clients. We are fortunate to have someone of Hy’s experience and skills to spearhead these critical efforts.”

Hy joins Cleary from the global insurance company QBE Holdings, where he was Chief Human Resources Officer for North America and Emerging Markets, and Global Head of Organizational Capability. Prior to QBE, Hy held senior human resources and talent management positions at New York Life, UBS, and Malcolm Pirnie (now Arcadis). In these roles, Hy was directly responsible for all aspects of the human resources function, including performance management, recruiting, diversity, compensation and benefits, and employee relations. Hy, who also has extensive experience as an executive coach, is a licensed psychologist with a master’s degree in organizational behavior and a doctorate in psychology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

“I’ve quickly learned that Cleary is a special place, with exceptional people,” said Hy. “Our longtime commitment to fostering collaboration in an inclusive environment that is focused on the highest-quality client service is energizing. I believe we have a wonderful opportunity to build on our strong foundation and develop an even more exciting platform to support our people and our clients around the globe. I’m delighted to be part of the team and looking forward to the firm’s next chapter in this area.”
