Cleary Gottlieb has been active in India-related work since the historic period following the introduction of the country’s liberalization program in 1991, principally through our London and Hong Kong offices. In fact, we were one of the first international law firms to act as counsel in IPOs by Indian companies following the reforms.

We have continued to handle significant matters in India ever since and have broadened our practice to include mergers and acquisitions, private equity and capital markets transactions, as well as matters involving outsourcing arrangements. Our experience extends both to Indian companies involved in outbound acquisitions and financings and to global clients looking to invest and do business in India.

We offer our clients an understanding of the Indian legal environment and business community that ensures transactions are completed with speed, efficiency, and sound judgment. Our team includes a number of Indian-qualified lawyers who have practiced in India and have deep expertise on Indian law aspects of transactions. While Cleary, like other foreign firms, are not qualified to practice Indian law, our excellent relationships with a number of leading law firms in India enable us to serve all our clients’ needs in a seamless and cost-effective manner.
