Jean-Louis Joris is senior counsel of the firm and a member of the Brussels and New York bars.

As an active partner, his practice was focused on mergers and acquisitions and financial transactions. He was distinguished for many years as a leading corporate/M&A lawyer by Chambers Global and Chambers Europe.

At the end of his career, he devoted a significant part of his time to bar-related activities. He has been a member of the Brussels bar council (conseil de l’Ordre), a director of the Board of the Federation of the French and German speaking bars of Belgium (Avocats.be), and president of the Multi-Jurisdictional Law Firms Committee of the Council of European bars and Law Societies (CCBE).

He is a founding member and vice-president of the Institut d’Etudes sur la Justice, a private institution that studies and promotes public debate on matters relating to the Judiciary, and is a board member of a number of charitable organizations, including the Association Jules Bordet, that supports and finances research at the Institut Jules Bordet hospital to fight cancer.

Jean-Louis joined the firm in 1975 in New York, became a partner in 1983 and senior counsel in 2009.
