Pro Bono

Cleary Gottlieb’s long-standing commitment to pro bono work is fueled by a belief that the legal profession is one that involves a serious obligation to assist those with limited access to legal services.

Our pro bono programme addresses a broad spectrum of needs, giving lawyers the opportunity to provide legal services to a wide variety of organizations and people in the community.

On August 21, 2003, Cleary Gottlieb became the second American law firm to sign the Joint Protocol for Pro Bono Legal Work. Andrew Curran, an English partner, signed the protocol on behalf of Cleary Gottlieb’s London office at a meeting with Susan Bucknall, Chief Executive of the London-based Solicitors Pro Bono Group. Mr. Curran stated that signing the protocol was in keeping with the firm’s "long-standing commitment to pro bono work and its belief that serving the community is an important duty of every lawyer." Cleary Gottlieb is a member and patron of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group.
