Internship Opportunities

Cleary Gottlieb is proud to offer an internship program geared towards college students for the summer of 2016.

These internships are available in various non-legal departments including Accounting and Finance, Business Development and Human Capital Management. This will be an exciting opportunity to build a foundation in a world class corporate environment.

This 10 week program will include but not be limited to the following activities:

Networking: Lunch and Learn series will be hosted by senior members of the organization to discuss their career paths and provide an overview of each of their departments. Other networking opportunities with the professional staff will also be available.

Training: Each intern will be assigned to various projects throughout the summer within their department which will enhance their training and real life work experience.

Feedback: Performance appraisals both at mid-point and end of summer.

Department Overviews

Accounting and Finance:

Cleary Gottlieb’s Accounting and Finance teams are a fully integrated global business function, which provides key financial resources and participates in critical business activities enabling the firm to achieve its strategic and operational business needs.

Accounting and Finance’s teams members are responsible for the development, oversight and of the execution of finance and accounting policies, financial analysis, reporting & planning, statutory compliance through the successful completion of the year end audit and related tax filings, execution of financial operational activities of billing, collections, payroll, accounts payable, and all other functions required to fully comply with the firm’s internal and external financial obligations.

The Accounting and Finance teams work with colleagues globally to optimize business processes and to ensure the firm’s financial statements reflect an accurate portrait of the firm’s financial performance.

Business Development:

The New York Business Development team is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day business development initiatives of the U.S. and Latin American offices, including pitches for new business, research projects, client seminars and special events, media relations activities and the development of collateral materials. This department is also responsible for leading the firm’s brand development (visual and key messaging) and its positioning and awareness in the marketplace.

Human Capital Management: Professional Development/Legal Recruiting

The Professional Development group supports the firm’s lawyers by ensuring associates have the resources to grow and develop into effective lawyers and leaders. The group works directly with firm leadership and associates on: formal performance reviews, upward reviews, mentoring, training and staffing legal matters and cases. The Professional Development group also regularly coordinates with other groups at the firm to advance associate professional development initiatives, including the Diversity and Inclusion, Legal Recruiting, Human Resources, Business Development, Alumni Relations and Pro Bono groups.

The Legal Recruiting Team is responsible for the management of the firm’s Summer Associate program and preparation for the on-campus interviewing process. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: performance review preparation, event management, special correspondence tracking and Vi (applicant tracking system) data management.
