Seeking Excellence and Creativity
We seek lawyers who are confident in their abilities and creative in their thinking. To find these attributes in a lawyer, we look for academically excellent candidates who are enthusiastic about practicing law in a challenging and dynamic international setting.
Lawyers come to us from many backgrounds, including judicial clerkships, government positions or other law firms. In fact, we take pride in the number of judicial clerks who join Cleary as associates:
- Roughly 160 of our lawyers have judicial clerkship experience, including as clerks with a U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Appeals or the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Several Cleary lawyers clerked in the highest U.S. State courts, as well as foreign courts, including the European Court of Justice.
- New or returning associates who have completed one or more clerkships are entitled to a bonus.
- Cleary gives seniority credit for each year of any judicial clerkship completed and pays a monetary bonus to incoming or returning associates who complete one or more judicial clerkships.
