Business Development Manager

This role supports the marketing and business development activities of our Greater China practice, which covers our Capital Markets, M&A and Private Funds teams based in our Hong Kong office, as well as lawyers around the network with clients active in Greater China.

Purpose

The primary responsibility of this role is to carry out the marketing and business development activities for our Greater China practice.

The Business Development Manager will:

  • Support the implementation of local and regional practice business plans, in close collaboration with partners and BDMC colleagues in EMEA and the Americas
  • Support local and global client development activities, including researching and identifying opportunities, tracking client outreach, helping facilitate cross-selling, and supporting participating of Hong Kong partners in firmwide client teams and industry-focused initiatives
  • Coordinate client activities when lawyers visit from other offices
  • Carry out feedback interviews with clients based in the region
  • Draft high quality and compelling credential statements and pitch documents in English and Mandarin and gather pitch feedback to help maintain high pitch win rates. Also maintain local experience lists.
  • Draft persuasive directory and award submissions and other marketing materials for use locally and globally, and offer guidance on those offering the greatest return on investment
  • Develop engaging client events, both for individual clients as well as groups of clients, ranging from corporate hospitality to content-driven events
  • Provide local content for traditional and social media, including deal announcements. Act as the local PR representative, liaising with journalists as necessary, and manage the firm’s WeChat account
  • Work with the global Marketing & Content Strategy team on profile raising campaigns and thought-leadership initiatives for the key practices in Greater China.

 

Skills and Competencies

Education/Experience:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • A minimum of seven years’ marketing and business development experience in an international law firm or professional services environment

Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of at least one of the practices areas covered by this role
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills – fluency in both English and Mandarin is essential and Cantonese is desirable
  • Ability to effectively communicate, interact and build relationships at all levels
  • Ability to build credibility and gain buy-in from senior stakeholders
  • Strong team player, fostering collaborative environments and contributing to collective success
  • Excellent analytical and research skills; and the ability to process information from a wide variety of sources
