Credit Controller
Reporting to the London Client Account Manager, the Credit Controller is responsible for the prompt and effective collection of outstanding debt, supporting cash flow management and maintaining strong client relationships.
Working as part of the London Finance department, the Credit Controller will engage regularly with clients, partners and fee earners to ensure timely recovery of aged debt, while providing timely and accurate reporting and assisting with the reducing lock-up.
Responsibilities
- Daily credit control responsibilities, including proactive chasing of clients by telephone, email and letter to ensure the prompt recovery of outstanding debt and regular reviews of debt balances.
- Proactively and promptly deal with and resolve client queries or questions as they arise.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in relation to collections processes to deliver complete chase history for collection items as applicable.
- Maintain accurate and detailed debtor notes and activity logs within Aderant Expert Collections.
- Attend partner meetings alongside Client Account Specialists to understand overall financial exposure and support collaborative decision-making.
- Advise partners on progress in chasing outstanding debts and coordinate with them regarding action to be taken to recover seriously overdue debts.
- Proactively and promptly escalate issues or queries to Client Account Manager and agree next steps.
- Prepare and distribute a monthly summary of overdue debts together with Credit Controller’s commentaries to Client Account Manager.
- Develop and enhance client relationships with key strategic clients to include monthly client calls in order to review debt and resolve queries.
- Liaise with other offices, including US offices, where required to support global client relationships and cross-border billing/collections.
- Assist the Client Account Manager with the preparation of monthly or ad-hoc reports.
- Assist with the administration of the London Billing Team inbox, including answering queries, providing reports and information as relating to client requests.
- Complete debt write-offs (when necessary) obtaining partner/management authorisation and updated documentation.
- Respond to finance queries from partners, fee earners and assistants in a timely and professional manner.
- Support month-end billing and provide assistance to the Revenue team on ad-hoc projects as required.

Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar credit control role; previous law firm or other professional service firm experience.
- Previous experience of MS Office, specifically Excel and Word.
- Experience with Aderant Expert preferred but candidates with Elite 3E experience would be considered.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
