Attorneys from Cleary Gottlieb, in partnership with New York Lawyers for the Public Interest and Nonprofit New York, presented “The CARES Act and More: Relief for Nonprofits,” an overview of the key financial relief programs and other provisions under recent legislation relevant to the nonprofit community in New York City.

The presentation included details on the financial relief programs available under the CARES Act, including eligibility criteria and the application process for the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) and Grant programs, as well as insight into the tax credits, charitable contributions rules, and employment law provisions that will be important to nonprofits during this challenging time. The discussion also provided guidance on identifying and applying to private loan and grant programs as an alternative to the government-sponsored programs that are now available.

As nonprofits across New York City move forward in charting their paths through this unfolding economic crisis, the presentation provided a clear summary of the options available to help nonprofits mitigate the effects of COVID-19.

Cleary associates Charlie Allen, Rachel Shapiro, Michelle Elsner, Harshil Shukla, and Steven Xie presented, supervised by partner Rich Lincer.
