Cleary Gottlieb counsel Emmanuel Ronco, senior attorney Natascha Gerlach, and associate Natalie Farmer discussed the landmark judgment handed down on July 16, 2020, from the Court of Justice of the European Union (the “CJEU”) in Data Protection Commissioner v. Facebook Ireland and Maximillian Schrems (“Schrems II”).
In Schrems II, the CJEU invalidated the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield, forcing companies to find alternative ways to transfer personal data from the EU.
Cleary’s Data Privacy team discussed the judgment and potential ways forward, and took questions from attendees.
