Black Connect in Expansion of Pro Bono Legal Services Program

September 18, 2020

Cleary Gottlieb is supporting Black Connect, Inc. as it launches its pro bono legal services program for small businesses and nonprofits.

Black Connect is a new nonprofit with a mission to eliminate the racial wealth gap and build self-sustaining Black communities. Recognizing that, on average, it would take 228 years for the average Black family to reach the median level of wealth white families own, the organization seeks to expand access to education and training, mentorship and incubation, pathways to capital, and related resources for Black-owned and operated enterprises.

Black Connect plans to launch the New York arm of its pro bono legal services program in October 2020. As part of the launch, on October 21, 2020, a team of Cleary attorneys will present a training webinar for entrepreneurs entitled “The Life Cycle of a Contract.” The presentation will cover core contracts concepts, including key provisions, negotiation strategies, and basic exit principles. Trainings on nonprofit formation, tax-exempt status, and governance principles will follow.
