Cleary Gottlieb Counsel in Three IFR Deals of the Year

January 14, 2008

Cleary Gottlieb was counsel in three of International Financing Review’s 2007 Deals of the Year. The awards were announced on December 17, 2007.

Cleary Gottlieb advised long-time client CVRD on its $3.75 billion bond offering, a transaction awarded Latin American Bond of the Year. The offering is reportedly the largest-ever corporate bond offering by a Latin American borrower. IFR noted that while the transaction closed in November 2006 “there were no Latin American bonds launched in 2007 that were as ground-breaking or compelling.”

U.S. Equity Issue of the Year was awarded to VMware’s $1.1 billion IPO. Cleary represented the underwriters in the offering, which IFR noted as being “among the most successful carve-out IPOs ever.”

Cleary Gottlieb also advised Sony Financial in its ¥ 320 billion (U.S. $2.9 billion) IPO, which was awarded Asia-Pacific Equity Issue of the Year. IFR noted this transaction “[overcame] tough market conditions and a skeptical investor base to deliver a hugely successful listing.”
