Cleary Gottlieb Partner Robert Cook to Join SEC as Director of Division of Trading and Markets

Cleary Gottlieb partner Robert Cook will be retiring from the firm to join the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as Director of the agency’s Division of Trading and Markets. In this role, Mr. Cook will be the senior staff person responsible for regulating the major securities market participants, including broker-dealers, self-regulatory organizations (such as stock exchanges, FINRA, and clearing agencies), and transfer agents.

During his time at the firm, Mr. Cook has been a significant contributor to our securities regulation and transaction practices. He is one of the leading practitioners on broker-dealer and market regulation in the United States. He joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 2001.
