In a judgment published on December 23, 2016, the Lazio Regional Administrative Court upheld the appeal brought by Sky Italia and annulled the decision of the Competition Authority, which had penalized Mediaset, Sky, Lega Professionisti Serie A and Infront for the alleged cartel concerning TV rights for the years 2015 through 2018.
The Competition Authority, in a decision last April, had found the existence of conduct aimed at altering competitive mechanisms on the basis that the parties had participated in an agreement restricting competition, designed to unlawfully share audiovisual rights.
With this allegation, the court imposed a fine of €51 million on Mediaset, €2 million on Lega Professionisti Serie A, €9 million on Infront and €4 million on Sky.
