The Deal Launches T-Mobile/Sprint Merger Podcast With Cleary Gottlieb and T-Mobile

The Deal has launched the first in a three-episode podcast series that explores the historic merger of T-Mobile with Sprint through discussions with T-Mobile and Cleary Gottlieb.

In the first episode, Cleary partner Mark Nelson and T-Mobile executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary Dave Miller discussed the legal team’s strategy to address regulatory challenges in light of unsuccessful combination attempts prior to the companies’ 2018 merger announcement.

The merger, which faced close scrutiny from a broad range of stakeholders, including federal regulators, various state attorneys general, and public utility commissions, required a sound business case that would address how the benefits of the deal greatly outweighed any perceived risks. Mark and Dave detailed how the legal teams successfully demonstrated that the merger would transform the U.S. telecommunications landscape with a market-leading 5G network, greater competition, and an expansion of capacity that would result in lower prices and better quality for American consumers.
