Abhi Chopra advises on a broad range of restructuring, insolvency, and special situations matters, with a particular focus on situations with a cross-border element, which includes out-of-court restructurings, distressed/special situations investments, formal restructurings, and insolvent administrations.

He has experience acting for a range of stakeholders including distressed corporates, private equity sponsors, private credit funds, special situations investors, financial institutions, company directors, and insolvency practitioners.

Abhi joined the firm in 2024. Prior to joining Cleary, he trained and practiced at one of Australia’s leading independent law firms.

  • An ad hoc group of noteholders on the restructuring of loan participation notes issued by VFU Funding PLC to finance a loan to Vodafone Ukraine and the underlying loan.

  • Noteholders in relation to debt recovery proceedings against Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget i Norden AB (publ) (SBB) for breaches of the terms and conditions of notes issued by SBB. Also advised in relation to co-operation arrangements between noteholders and tender and exchange offers launched by SBB in December 2024.

  • An ad-hoc group of bondholders in relation to the potential restructuring of bonds issued by a Ukrainian electricity transmission system operator.

  • An independent Brazilian oil and gas producer on its negotiations with creditors in relation to a potential cross-border restructuring and interim rescue financing arrangements.

  • A prominent investment bank in relation to the 2025 restructuring of Altice France.
