Cleary Gottlieb Wins "M&A Deal of the Year" and "Debt and Equity-Linked Deal of the Year" at International Financial Law Review’s Americas Awards

April 7, 2008

Cleary Gottlieb won both M&A Deal of the Year and Debt and Equity-Linked Deal of the Year at the International Financial Law Review’s Americas Awards 2008 dinner. Cleary Gottlieb earned the M&A honor for representing Euronext in its $11.3 billion merger with the New York Stock Exchange, creating the first transatlantic securities exchange company. IFLR described this deal as “part of a growing trend of exchange consolidation” that “also set the biggest and most complex precedent for such cross-border mergers.”

The firm advised Citigroup on its private placement of $7.5 billion of hybrid securities to sovereign wealth fund Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, recognized by IFLR as Debt and Equity-Linked Deal of the Year. IFLR commended the transaction for “creating a trend that continued into 2008 with financial institutions agreeing to investments by sovereign wealth funds.”
