Partner Romina Polley Appointed Honorarprofessor by the University of Cologne

Cleary Gottlieb Partner Romina Polley has been appointed as an “extraordinary” Professor of Law (Honorarprofessor) by the University of Cologne.

The appointment enables Romina to further integrate into the academic life of the university, where she has been teaching German and European competition law since 2016. Before she had been teaching for several years in the graduate program at the law faculty of University of St. Gallen.

Romina said of the appointment, “I am extremely honored by my appointment as Honorarprofessor and looking forward to enhancing legal education at the University of Cologne through the practical insights I have gained as a partner at Cleary Gottlieb and as counsel in various proceedings before the German and European competition authorities and courts.”

Romina joined Cleary’s Cologne office in 2004 as a partner. Romina’s practice focuses on European and German merger control including ROW filings, European and German cartel proceedings (including dawn raid assistance, leniency and follow on damages work), advice on abuse of dominance and paramount cross-market significance, advisory work on licensing, distribution and joint ventures as well as competition litigation.

Romina is an active member of the legal community not only in Germany but also in Europe and regularly publishes and lectures on merger control and cartel enforcement and speaks at conferences. She is also a co-editor of ZWeR, a German-speaking journal of competition law.
