A Social Taxonomy for Europe: Extending the EU ESG Framework to Socially Sustainable Activities and Companies’ Corporate Governance

March 15, 2022

On February 28, 2022, the “Platform on Sustainable Finance” expert group delivered to the European Commission its final report on a “Social Taxonomy” for the EU.

In 2020, the “Taxonomy Regulation” established a general framework to determine if a given economic activity (and any related investments and financial products) may qualify as environmentally sustainable.

In 2022, the Commission will consider how the EU Taxonomy can be extended to also cover social and corporate governance objectives (the “S” and “G” of E-S-G).
