Martha Smyth’s practice focuses on EU, UK, and French competition law.

Martha advises clients in complex multijurisdictional transactions, antitrust investigations before the European Commission, French Competition Authority, and UK Competition and Markets Authority, and related litigation. Martha’s work has covered various sectors, notably manufacturing and industrial services; sustainability; water, waste, and energy management services; luxury goods; aerospace; technology; and media and publishing.

Martha joined the firm in 2018.

  • Veolia Environnement on several antitrust and merger control cases, including its €12.9 billion acquisition of Suez and related asset divestments.

  • Vivendi in obtaining the European Commission and local jurisdictions’ approval of its acquisition of sole control over Lagardère.

  • Elsan in the antitrust aspects of the acquisition of Hexagone Santé Méditerranée before the FCA.

  • Pernod Ricard in the sale of its portfolio of international wines to Australian Wine Holdco Limited.

  • TD SYNNEX before the FCA in a high-profile investigation regarding the distribution of Apple product and the subsequent litigations.

  • Airbus in connection with advice relating to several European and/or global antitrust analyses.

  • Several clients in providing preliminary antitrust assessment of envisaged deals and/or cooperations (including merger control, foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign subsidy control (FSR).

  • Several clients in the context of antitrust investigations, litigation before regulators and courts and providing regular guidance on antitrust compliance.
