Fraud Alert

Please be alert to any unusual or unexpected communications that claim to come from our Firm, partners, attorneys, or employees.

As reported across the legal industry, some fraud scams may involve impersonating law firms and their personnel in email and online. Fraudsters may try to induce victims to disclose confidential information or make payments under false pretenses, sometimes using forged documents or letterhead, spoofed or look-alike email domains, and the names of actual attorneys and personnel that work at our Firm.

Cleary Gottlieb will never ask for payments using WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn, or similar platforms, and we do not use Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, or other personal email account services for Firm business. Please verify any unusual communication by separately contacting the attorney or purported Firm representative directly, using the contact information on this website. Do not rely on contact information provided in a suspicious communication.

Treat any unexpected request involving payment instructions, confidential information, or urgent action with particular caution, especially if it involves changes to payment details. Do not click on links or open attachments in suspicious or unexpected messages that appear to come from our Firm.

Although Cleary takes these matters seriously, we cannot prevent these scams. If you believe you have been the target or victim of fraud or impersonation, you should report the matter to the relevant authorities.
