Your Mission

As UX Engineer at Springbok AI by Cleary Gottlieb, your mission is to shape how the world’s sharpest legal minds interact with AI — making powerful, complex tools feel intuitive, elegant, and effortless. You’ll lead end-to-end design and implementation of user experiences across our AI- powered legal product suite, from Figma to frontend code. This role sits at the creative and technical heart of our team — combining thoughtful design with hands-on engineering to deliver tools lawyers actually want to use.

About Springbok AI by Cleary Gottlieb

We’re not just “digitizing documents” — we’re building the future of legal work from the ground up. Our team is made up of AI engineers, data scientists, software engineers, and product experts who are obsessed with making legal processes smarter, faster, and actually enjoyable to use.

We’re responsible for shipping AI workflows, agents, and tools that lawyers and the business actually want to use. It’s fast-paced, highly collaborative, and deeply creative work. We move quickly, test constantly, and have the rare backing of a world-class law firm that genuinely wants to change how legal work gets done.

This isn’t your standard “legal tech” gig. This is your chance to be in the room where it happens — shaping the next generation of AI-powered legal tools with one of the sharpest teams in the game.

The Team

We’re a tight-knit 12 person strong team, and we’re built on the values of meritocracy, pragmatism, honesty, and ownership. We studied our craft at world-leading universities and the combination of our diverse academic backgrounds - Physics, Neuroscience, Mathematics, Engineering, Psychology, etc - and our ability to draw on the latest findings in scientific research enables us to design cutting-edge solutions that make AI real – now inside Cleary Gottlieb. The Springbok AI team at Cleary is remote-first, but we have access to a beautiful office in London Moorgate for anyone who prefers to work in-person. We also get together for social team hangouts and off-sites.

The Role

We’re looking for a UX Engineer who gets excited by clean design, intuitive flows, and clever UI touches that make users smile. Someone who cares as much about how something feels to use as how it looks on screen.

You’ll lead the charge on our UI/UX direction — from creating wireframes, to converting them into functional frontend code.

To clarify, this is not a pure UX Designer role. Your ownership of the journey will not end at a Figma file. We will expect you to be able to bring your ideas to life in code within a modern frontend framework.

As UX Engineer at Springbok AI by Cleary Gottlieb, you’ll...

  • Own the UX vision: Lead the design direction across multiple products — shaping how lawyers interact with next-gen AI tools.
  • Build and evolve our design system: Keep it lean, clean, accessible, and consistently brilliant. We’ll be looking for themed, accessible UI elements (WCAG) that support consistency across products.
  • Interface Design & Prototyping like a Pro: Design and prototype engaging, high- quality interfaces using Figma, effectively communicating design intent.
  • Bring Designs to Life: Work alongside the frontend team to implement polished, responsive UIs using CSS and TypeScript in our React & MUI stack.
  • Maintain a reusable component library: Think “design once, use everywhere.” You’ll help us ensure design consistency across products.
  • Collaborate with everyone: You’ll be at the centre of it all — talking to legal, product, and engineering teams daily to iterate fast and deliver real impact. The magic happens where there is alignment between user stories, UX principles, and implementation.

About You

We’re looking for an excellent human to join our superstar team. As we continue to develop our internal portfolio, you’ll be instrumental in driving the next phase of our growth within the Firm. We’re just getting started!

The mindset and traits that will make you successful here...

  • You’re a fast learner with a growth mindset — this trait is by far the biggest indicator of success in the Springbok team.
  • You’re a UX champion — someone who sweats the small stuff and sees design problems before others do.
  • Creative, curious, and opinionated — in a good way. You’ve got taste and you’re not afraid to use it. You’re excited about the challenge of doing things you’ve never done before!
  • You think systematically — you build and maintain organised design systems and component libraries that scale seamlessly across products.
  • Collaborative by nature — you thrive on feedback, love pairing with developers, and aren’t precious about your ideas. You’re raring to be around smart people who will challenge you to become your best self.
  • You ship — you care about real-world usage, not just how your designs look in a deck.

The experience that will give you a competitive advantage

  • UI Development — HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and feel comfortable working with a modern frontend framework (we’re using React). You must be able to code, and be able to build responsive layouts for all screen sizes and browsers.
  • Experience in designing and building intuitive UIs (whether you’ve called yourself a Frontend Developer or something else).
  • Strong Figma skills (or equivalent design tool) — wireframes, design systems, interactive prototyping. You will be our team’s expert.
  • A portfolio that shows taste and craft.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working in a startup or building 0–1 products.
  • Interest and experience in and on AI-powered applications, prompt engineering, or building interfaces around complex tech.
  • Any experience working with legal teams or legal tech tools (but don’t worry if not — we’ll teach you).
  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum environment or working closely with product/dev squads.

Research shows that candidates are less likely to apply to positions for which they do not meet 100% of the job criteria. If you’re excited about the role and meet some of the above criteria but are unsure whether you’re a good fit, we still strongly encourage you to apply. Here at Springbok AI by Cleary Gottlieb, your biggest indicator of success is your rate of learning, not pure experience.

Why you’ll love it here

  • You’ll get a lot of autonomy to define and design your own work. We also expect our team to grow in the next years, so there’s a chance to grow your team and responsibilities quite rapidly.
  • You’ll work with smart, kind, ambitious people who know how to get things done.
  • You’ll move fast and see your ideas in production — not in a backlog.
  • You’ll learn more in 3 months than you would in 3 years elsewhere.

If you are interested in applying, please submit a CV and short cover letter to the London Human Resources Team, LON-HR@cgsh.com.
