Cleary Gottlieb’s London office held a virtual trivia quiz event to raise funds for the National Literacy Trust’s (NLT) response to the COVID-19 crisis in the United Kingdom.

Participants in the quiz, hosted via Zoom, answered a series of trivia questions and contributed voluntary donations via text message pledges and Cleary’s JustGiving page dedicated to NLT’s efforts. Over 70 lawyers and professional staff took part in the quiz remotely, and the firm welcomed special guests Cressida Cowell, Waterstones Children’s Laureate and National Literacy Trust ambassador, and Jonathan Douglas, CEO of the National Literacy Trust.

NLT is providing 200,000 new books to vulnerable children and disadvantaged families across the UK via food banks and community groups during lockdown. In addition, Cleary lawyers and professional staff will be volunteering with NLT in the coming weeks and months to reduce the negative impact of COVID-19 on literacy levels in the UK’s less-advantaged communities.

Cleary has partnered with the National Literacy Trust for several years in its efforts to give young people the literacy skills they need to succeed in life.
