Cleary Gottlieb senior counsel Mario Siragusa, partners François‐Charles Laprévote and Amélie Champsaur, and counsel Gianluca Faella participated in a webinar roundtable discussion event, State Aid in the Banking Sector: What’s Next?

The event was a celebration of the publication of the Research Handbook on State Aid by Edward Elgar.

The global financial crisis that struck Europe has profoundly affected its political, economic, and regulatory landscape. The speakers focused on the most recent developments regarding state interventions in the banking sector, including Italian bank rescues, burden sharing, the bail-in debate, and the future of the 2013 Banking Communication.

The speakers took the opportunity to introduce the Research Handbook on State Aid in the Banking Sector published by Edward Elgar this year. The book offers insights from law and economics on the extent to which the EU/EEA State aid regime is able to address adequately the concerns of financial regulation without losing sight of its primary purpose.
