New York, New York

Cleary Gottlieb pro bono attorney Katherine Hughes and associate Mihalis Gousgounis participated in a presentation on the range of legal entities available to social entrepreneurs, including an overview of the mechanics of nonprofit, benefit corporation, and for-profit structures.

Katherine and Mihalis presented on “Achieving Social Purpose Through Legal Form.”

The discussion covered governance and reporting requirements, tax and funding considerations and an overview of the pros and cons of each legal form. The panelists will also review concerns that arise at formation and as an organization grows and how changes can be implemented along the way.

The legal workshop and clinic was hosted by Cleary Gottlieb in partnership with the Centre for Social Innovation.
