A deal on which Cleary Gottlieb advised has been named India Business Law Journal’s (IBLJ) leading 2021 Capital Markets Deal of the Year.
Cleary represented Goldman Sachs, the largest shareholder in ReNew Power, in ReNew’s proposed public listing through a business combination with RMG Acquisition Corporation II, a special purpose acquisition company. The transaction bolstered ReNew’s leading position in the generation of solar and wind renewable power for the Indian market by funding medium-term growth opportunities and paying down debt.
The listing, to date, is one of the largest involving an Indian company in the U.S., and the first such global transaction involving a renewable independent power producer.
