Cleary Gottlieb and HSBC Host Internship for Aspiring Lawyers With the National Literacy Trust

From October 23-27, 2023, Cleary Gottlieb and HSBC are hosting a virtual internship for 30 young people from across the United Kingdom.

The virtual internship is an opportunity for students aged 16-19 to gain first-hand experience in the corporate world and learn about the many possible career pathways in the legal profession. Volunteers at HSBC and Cleary are running interactive training workshops all week to develop the students’ CVs, presentation skills, and interview experience as well as offering activities that enable the students to put their communication skills and commercial awareness into practice.

Throughout the week, the students will work with our volunteers to analyze a fictional M&A transaction, assessing potential legal risks and taking part in a mock negotiation with their peers to finalize the deal. The activity has been developed to empower the students with the skills needed to pursue a range of careers in the corporate world.

The virtual internship is organized by Cleary’s Social Mobility Working Group in London, the Pro Bono and Social Mobility Committee at HSBC, and the UK National Literacy Trust, a longstanding charity partner aiming to support the literacy and employability of young people in the UK.
