Cleary Gottlieb co-hosted a panel event in Brussels with TrustLaw and DLA Piper in celebration of European Pro Bono Week.
The panel event, “Pro Bono in a Time of Crises,” examined how pro bono lawyers in Belgium are responding to the needs of the vulnerable and forcibly displaced against the backdrop of war and climate change. Panelists discussed the success of the award-winning Brussels Bar Refugee Helpdesk, ways of supporting refugees in Belgium, and pro bono responses to the issue of climate change migration.
Byron Spring, Pro Bono Managing Attorney in EMEA, also moderated a panel on opportunities for undocumented migrants and forcibly displaced persons in Belgium. He was joined by representatives of FairWork Belgium, Fragomen, and the International Organization for Migration.
This event marks the fourth-annual roundtable in Brussels to celebrate European Pro Bono Week and recognize the efforts of volunteer lawyers to secure access to justice across mainland Europe.
