Byron Spring is Cleary Gottlieb’s Global Pro Bono Counsel & Director.

Byron leads an accomplished team of pro bono attorneys and professionals to manage Cleary’s award-winning pro bono practice. He is responsible for the firm’s relationships with public service organizations across all areas of its global pro bono program, while his own practice focuses on international human rights and supporting nonprofits and social enterprises in the United Kingdom.

Byron was shortlisted as an “Unsung Hero” at the British Legal Awards in 2024 by Law.com International, and leads several initiatives to support the growth of pro bono in Europe. He also manages the firm’s educational pipeline work in various jurisdictions to advance youth literacy and access to the legal profession.

Byron joined the firm in 2011 and trained as a Solicitor in London and Paris, qualifying in 2013 as an Associate in the firm’s corporate practice. He moved to the firm’s pro bono team in 2017, managing Cleary’s pro bono practice in Europe and the Middle East before becoming Global Pro Bono Counsel & Director in 2025.
