Cleary Gottlieb Counsel in Two LatinFinance Deals of the Year

February 4, 2009

Cleary Gottlieb was counsel in sovereign matters recognized as Deals of the Year by LatinFinance in its annual awards issue. Uruguay’s liability management transactions throughout 2007 and 2008, on which Cleary Gottlieb advised Uruguay, were named “Best Sovereign Liability Management of the Year.” These transactions included Uruguay’s cash tender offer completed in December 2007 and the combined U.S. cross-border tender offer in the summer of 2008. Uruguay won this same award two years ago in recognition of its $1.17 billion exchange and cash tender offer and contemporaneous cash offerings of U.S. dollar and Uruguayan Peso-denominated bonds, on which Cleary Gottlieb also advised.

In addition, Mexico’s $1.5 billion notes offering in January 2008, on which Cleary Gottlieb advised Mexico, was named “Best Sovereign Bond of the Year.” Cleary Gottlieb has represented Mexico in over $23 billion in capital markets offerings since 2002, including the first Euro-denominated bond issue by Mexico since 2001, and its award-winning $1.75 billion global notes offering in 2002.
