Cleary Gottlieb Expands Global Funds Practice with Addition of Regulatory Partner Greg Larkin

May 18, 2026

Cleary Gottlieb announced today that Greg Larkin joined the firm as a partner in its Global Funds group. Based in Washington, D.C., Greg will add greater dedicated Investment Advisers Act capacity to the growing funds regulatory team.

“We are excited to welcome Greg to our firm,” said Cleary Managing Partner Jeff Karpf. “As private markets evolve, regulatory considerations have become central to all aspects of fund formation. Greg brings exactly the kind of depth our clients are looking for, and he will further expand our market-leading global funds practice to support clients where regulatory sophistication is a baseline expectation.”

Greg has extensive experience advising private fund sponsors and other investment advisors on regulatory, governance, and compliance matters focused primarily on Advisers Act and Investment Company Act matters.

Prior to joining Cleary, Greg was a partner at an international law firm in Washington, D.C., where he regularly counseled asset managers and other industry participants across a wide range of Advisers Act and Investment Company Act issues, including SEC examinations and regulatory and compliance matters in connection with the structuring, registration, and regulatory filings of U.S. and non-U.S. managers, the formation and marketing of private funds, co-investments, continuation vehicles, and other private fund transactions. Throughout his career, Greg has advised private fund sponsors investing in a variety of asset classes including, among other strategies, private equity, private credit, real estate, real estate debt, venture capital, crypto and other digital assets.

“As a dedicated funds regulatory partner, Greg’s arrival bolsters our team’s capabilities to serve our clients who are dealing with an increasingly complex regulatory landscape,” said Liza Lenas, partner and leader of Cleary’s Global Funds group. “With nearly two decades of experience, Greg’s skills will complement our fund formation work and support the full spectrum of private and retail fund matters.”

Greg’s appointment represents the firm’s ongoing commitment to provide clients with top-tier services across a wide range of funds work. The group, which is ranked Band 1 for Fund Formation in the U.S. by Chambers, has advised on funds with commitments exceeding $500 billion worldwide. Greg follows the recent arrival of funds partner David Christmas in London, as well as John Mahon and Florence Zhang joining Cleary in 2025, and the promotion of Renée Gagné to partner in January 2026.

“I am delighted to join Cleary’s distinguished Global Funds group,” said Greg. “I look forward to working alongside a talented group of lawyers to expand the firm’s funds regulatory capabilities, especially as clients increasingly expect embedded regulatory counsel as heightened regulatory attention persists.”

Greg received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.S.E. from Princeton University.
