Cleary Gottlieb Mentee Secures Training Contract at Top London Law Firm

March 27, 2019

As part of Cleary Gottlieb’s City Solicitors’ Horizons mentoring work, a mentee has secured a training contract at a top law firm in London.

Since 2017, Cleary associate Andrew Hurwitz has been mentoring an undergraduate student referred to the firm under a scheme coordinated by City Solicitors’ Horizons. The undergraduate obtained centralized training and work experience at the firm and regular mentoring sessions with Andrew throughout the scheme. Andrew’s mentee has secured a training contract at one of the top London law firms when he finishes his studies.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to act as a mentor over the past two years. My mentee should be extremely proud of his achievement, particularly as he arrived in the UK only six years ago with very little English,” said Andrew. “The work experience at Cleary served as a huge confidence boost in his pursuit of a training contract, as it confirmed to him that he was more than capable of doing the type of work expected from a trainee solicitor. We became good friends during the mentoring process, and I am delighted to have played a small part in setting him on a fantastic path for his future career as a corporate lawyer.”

City Solicitors’ Horizons is a project run by Sponsors for Educational Opportunity in collaboration with the City of London Solicitors’ Company, aiming to improve access to the legal profession for first-year undergraduates from less-advantaged backgrounds. Each year, the firm mentors six undergraduate students referred under the scheme, offering a one-week work experience placement to the students in August to prepare them for forthcoming applications and vacation schemes.
