November 11, 2008

The second edition of the TopLegal Awards held in Milan last night crowned Cleary Gottlieb as Best International Firm of the Year. The firm’s Italian team won for “its consistently high-quality M&A, litigation and antitrust practices.” Judges also agreed “the firm has embedded itself the most in Italian legal culture.”

Mario Siragusa was named Antitrust Lawyer of the Year. According to the judges, “in Italy his name is synonymous with antitrust law. He is definitively a point of reference for companies operating in the telecommunication industry, both in the court and outside the court”. Jury also commented that “he has built a team with a great capacity for producing work”.

In addition, Ferdinando Emanuele was ranked third in the category “Litigation Lawyer of the Year”, and Cleary Gottlieb was short-listed in the categories “Antitrust Law Firm of the Year” and “In House PR Team of the Year”.

TopLegal is the journal covering the legal market in Italy. The short-list for each category was obtained through an on-line voting system (addressed to professionals), and the final choice was made by a jury composed of people from the worlds of finance, business and communications. On the night, over 600 people were present at the East End Studios in Milan, including business lawyers, entrepreneurs and executives from the world of industry and finance.
