Cleary Gottlieb Named "Russian Law Firm of the Year" for the Third Time

The Russian practice of Cleary Gottlieb has been named Russia’s best law firm at the International Financial Law Review’s Europe Awards 2010. Since the inception of this award in 2003, Cleary Gottlieb has won this award three times; no other law firm has been acknowledged more than once.
Cleary Gottlieb’s 2009 engagements included acting as counsel to Gazprom in its $1.5 billion acquisition of a 51% stake in SeverEnergia; to Alrosa in its sale of oil and gas companies; to TNK-BP in its sale of its oilfield services business; to Alenia in its joint venture with Sukhoi to produce the Super Jet; to MTS and a special committee of its board in its acquisition of a 51% stake of Comstar; to Magnit in its $525 million share placement; and, with other counsel, to Rusal on the international aspects of its $16.8 billion debt restructuring and $2.4 billion IPO and Hong Kong and Euronext Paris listings.
Also at the awards, the $2 billion acquisition of ParisRe by PartnerRe, for which the firm advised Credit Suisse as financial adviser to ParisRe, was named European M&A Deal of the Year.
