Cleary Gottlieb ranked #1 in the category of “Best Firm to Work for” in the 2009 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms. The firm was also recently named one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother magazine.

Additionally, for the second year in a row, Vault recognized Cleary Gottlieb’s antitrust practice as the most prestigious in the United States and, following on the heels of being named the most diverse law firm by Minority Law Journal, Cleary Gottlieb ranked #1 in Vault’s “Overall Diversity” and “Diversity for Minorities” categories. The firm also secured the top spot nationwide for its offices.

Among the 22 areas in which Cleary Gottlieb ranked in the top ten, other highlights include: #3 for International Law Practice—Partner Prestige; #4 in International Law Practice; #4 in Overall Satisfaction; #4 in Securities Practice—Partner Prestige; #4 in Diversity for Gays and Lesbians; #5 in Associate/Partner Relations; and #5 in Antitrust Practice—Partner Prestige. These rankings are part of Vault’s U.S. survey of more than 18,800 practicing attorneys on law firm attributes such as quality of life, prestige and diversity.

In its second annual joint initiative with Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, Working Mother recognized 50 U.S. firms that have established the best work/life benefits to help female lawyers succeed. Cleary Gottlieb’s policies governing leave of absences, including allowing new mothers to take as much time off as they wish, flex-time and telecommuting, and the firm not requiring minimum billable hours for lawyers with reduced schedules were highlighted. Certain of the firm’s female leadership roles and achievements, mentoring program, and Committee on Women’s Issues were also recognized.

The top 50 firms for 2008 were selected based on a variety of factors, including: workforce profile; family-friendly benefits and policies; flexibility; leadership, compensation and advancement of women; and development and retention of women.

Working Mother magazine is the only magazine in the United States that focuses on career-committed mothers.
