Cleary Gottlieb “Sweeps the Board” as International Firm of Choice in LatinFinance Legal Services Survey

September 19, 2008

Cleary Gottlieb was voted the best international law firm in all six categories—M&A, debt, equity, securitization, syndicated loans and overall—in LatinFinance’s “Capital Markets Legal Services Survey” of approximately 45 corporate general counsels at some of Latin America’s leading issuers.

In the article accompanying its survey results, LatinFinance describes Cleary Gottlieb as “by far the most popular international law firm” and notes that as the financial markets deepen in Latin America and “M&A, equity, debt, structured finance, real estate and other deals grow and draw more foreign interest, the lawyers of choice are those that are most readily available and knowledgeable.” Roger Thomas commented on the considerable size and scope of Cleary Gottlieb’s team of specialists and how they work closely together to better identify regional trends.

Duane McLaughlin’s article “Debt Financing in the Wake of the Credit Crunch” was also published in the same September 2008 issue of the magazine.

LatinFinance covers trends, techniques, and development in Latin American finance, investment, and capital markets. At its 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony held earlier this year, LatinFinance named Cleary Gottlieb the “Best Law Firm” in Latin America and Mark Walker the “Best Latin Financier Lawyer” over the last twenty years. Roger Thomas was also shortlisted for a lifetime achievement award.
