Cleary Gottlieb advised on two matters selected by The American Lawyer as winners of its 2014 Global Legal Awards, which recognize the most distinguished cross-border legal work across a range of practice areas. The American Lawyer received more than 270 nominations, including more than 170 transactions, from 66 law firms.
Cleary Gottlieb earned the “Global M&A Deal of the Year: Canada” award for advising Neiman Marcus, TPG Capital, and Warburg Pincus on the sale of Neiman Marcus to Ares Management and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board last year. Bob Davis and David Leinwand led the Cleary Gottlieb team.
Additionally, Cleary Gottlieb’s representation of longstanding client Suntory Holdings in its acquisition of Beam Inc. earlier this year was awarded “Global M&A Deal of the Year: Japan (outbound).” Paul Shim and Benet O’Reilly lead the firm team on that matter.
Four grand prize winners—in Global M&A, Global Finance, Global Disputes and Global Citizenship—will be announced at the awards dinner on September 15 at Gotham Hall in New York City.
