Cleary Gottlieb is advising EMC on the antitrust aspects of its $2.25 billion all-cash acquisition of Isilon Systems, a fast-growing Scale-out Network Attached Storage systems company, based in Seattle. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals, was announced on November 15 and is expected to close by the end of 2010.
Together, Isilon and EMC will provide customers with an innovative and highly scalable storage infrastructure for managing so-called “Big Data,” the increasingly large amounts of data produced by new generation applications in areas such as life sciences, media and entertainment, and oil and gas. EMC plans to invest in all aspects of Isilon’s business to accelerate growth and take advantage of the fast-growing market opportunity ahead.
