Generation Investment Management Invests in Motivate International

February 9, 2017

Cleary Gottlieb is representing Generation Investment Management in connection with its investment in Motivate International.

Motivate, the global leader in bike share, operates five of the 10 largest bike share systems in the U.S., including the Citi Bike system in New York City.

Generation’s investment facilitated Motivate’s acquisition of 8D Technologies, whose point-of-sale solutions power bike share programs globally, including the solar-powered wireless terminals used by Motivate. The 8D transaction was also announced on February 9, 2017. The financial terms of Generation’s investment and the 8D acquisition have not been publicly announced.

Generation was co-founded in April 2004 by Al Gore and David Blood as an independent, private investment management partnership with offices in London and New York. Generation focuses on sustainable, long-term investing. Mr. Blood will join the Motivate board of directors.
