Global Legal Post Highlights Cleary Dominance in LatAm Capital Markets

May 24, 2021

Cleary Gottlieb took the No. 1 spot in the Latin American capital markets advisory league table for international firms after the first four months of 2021, according to data from Ágora and LexLatin.

In an article published in The Global Legal Post, Cleary was recognized for advising on 25 transactions worth $35 billion during the first four months of 2021 – more than three times higher than the next firm in line, which advised on deals worth just over $11 billion.

The article also noted that Latin America has seen an uptick in ESG-related deals, with Chile issuing more than $5 billion of sovereign sustainable bonds this year. In January, Cleary advised on Chile’s $2.25 billion and €1.65 billion offerings, and again in April on its $1.5 billion offering.

The article follows another from January 2021, which lauds Cleary for topping the Latin American capital markets advisory league tables in 2020 (for the second consecutive year, with regional activity surging 25% despite the wider turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic). In 2020, Cleary led the rankings by both deal count and deal value, working on 60 transactions worth $85 billion – up from 41 deals in 2019 worth roughly $65 billion.
