Joon Kim Honored by the Office of the Appellate Defender

Cleary Gottlieb partner Joon Kim has been honored with the 2023 Milton S. Gould Award for Outstanding Oral Advocacy by the Office of the Appellate Defender (OAD), one of the country’s leading providers of appellate representation to the indigent.

The Gould award, given annually to the two of the nation’s most accomplished oral advocates, was presented to Joon by Cleary partner Lisa Vicens at OAD’s 30th Annual First Monday in October Gala & Mock Supreme Court Argument.

As part of the event, Joon served as counsel to the petitioner in a mock Supreme Court argument, United States v. Zackey Rahimi, a case addressing the question of whether a federal law prohibiting firearms possession by those subject to domestic violence restraining orders violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
