Cleary Gottlieb partner Marijke Spooren and senior attorney Alice Setari have been named among Europe’s 25 best up-and-coming female lawyers by Law.com International in its Female Rising Stars 2022 list.
Cleary Gottlieb is one of just two firms with multiple lawyers recognized.
Marijke was recognized “as a skilled, dynamic negotiator with a talent for leading teams on complex deals.” Her work on Silver Point Capital and BlackRock’s €725 million sale of the division of a portfolio company that makes viral vectors was also highlighted as “key to the production of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine” in the midst of the pandemic.
Alice was recognized as “a key member of Cleary’s high-powered competition team in Milan.” She was also noted for her “round-the-clock advice” in persuading the Italian Competition Authority to drop all charges against her client Philips in its abuse of dominance proceedings.
The Female Rising Stars 2022 list represents the 25 women aged under 40 who “represent the best and brightest practicing in Europe” and are working to move existing law firm culture toward “greater equity and work-life balance.”
