Ngonda Drafts Corporate Governance Documents and Secures Tax-Exempt Status

May 5, 2022

Cleary Gottlieb successfully assisted Ngonda Foundation Inc. (Ngonda) on a pro bono basis with drafting its corporate governance documents and securing its tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Ngonda (which means “moon” in Gipende, the founder’s native language) was formed to fight the stigma against menstruation that exists in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DCR) and to alleviate the impacts to health and hygiene that arise as a result of that stigma. Ngonda’s founder was raised in the DRC and experienced firsthand the lack of education and support so many women and girls encounter in the region when it comes to menstruation and reproductive health. Ngonda will offer educational programming but also plans to manufacture and provide sustainable menstruation pads to those in need.
