Unconditional EU Clearance Secured for Sony’s Acquisition of Sony/ATV

August 1, 2016

Cleary Gottlieb acted as antitrust counsel to Sony Corporation of America and Sony/ATV Music Publishing in connection with Sony Corporation of America’s acquisition of the remaining 50 percent interest in Sony/ATV, the world’s largest music publishing company, held by the Estate of Michael Jackson. The transaction was valued at approximately $750 million. On August 1, 2016, the European Commission unconditionally approved the transaction, rejecting a complaint reportedly filed by IMPALA, the independent music companies association.
