Italian Competition Authority Adopts Leniency Notice

March 23, 2007

On March 23, 2007, the Rome/Milan office authored an Alert Memorandum entitled “Italian Competition Authority Adopts Leniency Notice”. This eight-page memo discusses the antitrust immunity program adopted on February 15, 2007, by the Italian Competition Authority, which introduced in the domestic competition regime a system of partial or total exoneration from the penalties that would otherwise be applicable to cartel members reporting their cartel membership. The Leniency Notice was largely inspired by the leniency program of the European Commission and the Model Leniency Program adopted on September 29, 2006, by the European Competition Network. The memorandum briefly summarizes some of the key points in the notice.
