Capital markets. We are regularly involved in the most sophisticated securities and capital markets transactions worldwide. With both U.S. and UK experience, we represent issuers and underwriters in their most challenging equity and debt offerings, including many debut and largest-ever listings.

Banking and finance. Cleary is a pioneer and global leader in banking matters and financing transactions including leveraged and acquisition financing, derivatives and other types of financings. Our London office handles the restructuring of existing financings for our global corporate and sovereign clients and has assisted on some of the largest-ever corporate restructurings.

Mergers and acquisitions. Our UK M&A practice represents public and private corporations, acquirors and targets, private-equity firms, and financial institutions in recommended and hostile deals including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, business and/or share sales and purchases, tender offers, leveraged buyouts, minority investments and restructurings. We have been involved in major cross-border transactions, often working closely with colleagues from our other offices, as well as in UK domestic deals.

Antitrust. An integral part of the firm’s global competition practice, the London antitrust team provides counsel on worldwide developments in competition law, as well as on all aspects of EU and UK competition law. The antitrust team handles matters involving merger control, market dominance and restrictive practices and regularly appears before the European Commission, the UK Competition and Markets Authority.

Tax. Our London tax lawyers work closely with those in the finance and corporate practices, as well as with lawyers in other offices, to structure innovative financial products for clients, handle tax planning for multinationals and advise on tax controversy issues. 

Litigation and arbitration. Our London team is an integral part of the firm’s leading European and international practice, handling local matters as well as multijurisdictional disputes. Cleary lawyers have represented clients before UK courts including the High Court, Privy Council and Court of Appeal, as well as in arbitrations in London and elsewhere under a variety of arbitral rules, including the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, AAA, and Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, and public international law cases under the ICSID rules.
