January 19, 2023

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP announced today that Solomon J. Noh and Alastair Goldrein will join the firm’s restructuring practice based in London.

“We are delighted to welcome Solomon and Alastair to our firm,” said Cleary Managing Partner Michael Gerstenzang. “Their deep experience and insights in cross-border restructuring matters will help guide our clients as they navigate a challenging and rapidly-evolving market environment. Solomon and Alastair will further strengthen our incredibly talented team, at a time in the economic cycle that will increasingly call on the creativity, commercial savvy, and versatility our firm offers. Their arrival at Cleary, along with our recent lateral hires and promotions across our European offices, also reflects continued investment in our first class EMEA platform and our commitment to internationalism.”

Solomon and Alastair join from a leading global law firm. Solomon has spent over two decades, including over a decade as partner, within the restructuring space. Alastair has over a decade of experience advising how businesses can meet restructuring needs.

“We have a very strong global Emerging Markets restructuring practice with a leading position in Latin America. We expect Solomon and Alastair’s experience to complement this practice in the EMEA region,” said Richard Cooper, senior global restructuring partner in the New York office. “Both are incredible lawyers with a lot of experience in the creditor side of restructuring in Europe, and they will help develop a broader offering for our clients with global reach.”

“I look forward to getting started in the London office,” said Solomon Noh. “Cleary has a stellar reputation and a culture built on collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence that is critically important to me. I have been lucky enough to witness this first hand when working on matters involving Cleary in the past and look forward to using my experience to help our clients achieve their goals.”

Solomon’s practice focuses on financial restructuring matters, particularly the representation of private capital funds and bondholder groups in distressed debt situations around the world. He also represents banks and investment managers in a broad range of commercial transactions, including financings and mergers and acquisitions.

“Cleary’s restructuring practice handles some of the most high-profile and sophisticated deals in the market for notable clients across industries and around the globe,” said Alastair Goldrein. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to join the team and work with this group of exceptionally talented lawyers.

Alastair’s practice focuses on advising creditors, sponsors, insolvent companies, and insolvency practitioners on all aspects of international restructurings, insolvency, and corporate rescues.

“I look forward to welcoming both of them to the London office,” said Tihir Sarkar, partner in the London office. “Both have tremendous experience in the restructuring space, but we expect their expertise to support other related areas such as private credit, special situations, and our work in the Emerging Markets. Together with our recent hire of Nick Rumsby and internal promotions of Naomi Tarawali and Chrishan Raja, the hires of Solomon and Alastair represent a significant expansion of our capabilities in London, and the firm’s overall commitment to the growth of our London office.”
