Cleary Gottlieb Launches Cybersecurity and Privacy Watch Blog

October 5, 2017

Cleary Gottlieb has launched the Cleary Cybersecurity and Privacy Watch, a blog providing updates and insights on global legal developments related to data breaches and other cybersecurity incidents, related corporate governance and disclosure issues, cyber-litigation and regulation, and privacy and data protection laws.

Current posts focus on rapidly evolving regulatory and legal developments including:

  • compliance with international cybersecurity laws, including China’s far-reaching new cybersecurity law
  • the regulatory and litigation wake of the massive Equifax data breach
  • the SEC’s response to the cyberbreach of its EDGAR systems
  • compliance with the recently implemented NYDFS cybersecurity rules

Jonathan S. Kolodner, a member of Cleary’s Cybersecurity & Privacy and White-Collar Defense & Investigations practice groups, said: “Our clients are increasingly coming to us with complex issues related to cybersecurity and data privacy. These issues arise in litigation and enforcement matters and transactions, raise questions about disclosure and regulatory compliance, and cut across jurisdictions. Cleary’s cross-disciplinary approach and international reach is a perfect fit for this increasingly important area, and our new Cybersecurity and Privacy Watch blog will help clients and others keep up with the latest developments.”

The blog launch occurs in advance of a cybersecurity conference being hosted by Cleary, K2 Intelligence, and BlueteamGlobal at Cleary’s New York office on November 28, 2017, titled “Cybersecurity Lessons from the Boardroom and C-suite to the Front Lines.” The event will offer insights on best practices for boards and management to mitigate cyber-risk, how to effectively respond to cyber-incidents, privacy in M&A, managing litigation and regulatory fallout from a data breach, and complying with data protection regimes outside of the United States.
