Cleary Gottlieb Places Among Top Law Firms on The American Lawyer’s Arbitration Scorecard

Cleary Gottlieb placed seventh among the top law firms appearing worldwide as arbitration counsel in The American Lawyer’s biennial Arbitration Scorecard. The firm was counsel in 13 of 261 arbitration matters surveyed by the Scorecard, all either contract disputes with stakes of at least $500 million or treaty disputes with stakes of at least $100 million that were active in 2009 through 2010.

Of the 113 matters in which at least $1 billion is in controversy, the firm was counsel in five, including Innergy Soluciones v. YPF; Giovanna a Beccara et al. v. Argentine Republic; Mittal Steel Company v. Czech Republic; E.T.I. Euro Telecom International N.V. v. The Plurinational State of Bolivia; and the largest reported arbitration ever, which include a trio of cases - Hulley Enterprises v. Russian Federation; Yukos Universal Limited v. Russian Federation; and Veteran Petroleum Limited v. Russian Federation.
