Cleary Gottlieb Ranked Among Top 10 on The American Lawyer’s A-List for Eighth Consecutive Year

July 1, 2010

Cleary Gottlieb was once again named to The American Lawyer’s A-List—a carefully-weighted annual ranking of the Top 20 most successful AmLaw 200 firms. This accomplishment makes Cleary Gottlieb one of only two firms to have placed in the Top 10 every year since the A-List’s inception in 2003. The firm ranked ninth on this year’s list.

The A-List measures the qualities of an elite law firm, described by The American Lawyer as those that are best at balancing a thriving business with their obligations to the profession. In determining its rankings, the publication examines four factors: revenue per lawyer, pro bono commitment, diversity among lawyers and associate satisfaction. Revenue per lawyer and pro bono work receive double weight.

Cleary Gottlieb is noted for its “status as a leader” in diversity, placing in the “top 10 for diversity rankings in five of the last six years.” This year, the publication revised its methodology for measuring diversity to stress the importance of hiring and promoting minority attorneys to partnership positions. In its description of Cleary Gottlieb, The American Lawyer highlights that the firm “counts minorities as 25 percent of attorneys and 11 percent of partners” and that it attributes these results to a “longstanding commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace.”
